Back-t0-School Night
The last day of August. Yikes.

We began class by assigning everyone to gather the "happened by chance" things we hope to use somewhere in the book. These are things like "on the third day of school, August 25, the temperature reached 108 degrees."

Then I showed some of the leads that were sent last night.

Then I divided them into two groups of 14 to begin doing partner interviews for their first writing asignment.

Staff Manual Complete: Day 7
After school we all worked to get the Staff Manual out. Good job Maddie and Alyssa




Then some us reeturned at six for Back to School Night.

We had an editor's meeting on Friday, but had our first official weekly one at 7:20. Too bad Maddie didn't make it.

In class we chose box partners and the did a class caption exercise with a great Tshirt making photo.


I hate Sarah. She is mean. To me.

After school Alyssa ran a photo training with five or six staffers. Glad that is getting underway.

Today we started by collecting our first set of quotable quotes and everyone's celebrity profile. It is always amazing how much every one loves looking at them. As soon as class started, everyone was gathered around the ones I put up from English.

I almost forgot that we hadn't done "Colors" so we quickly decided to work it in today. They amazingly demanded the cheesy "We're All In This Together" song which I had previously removed.

Today was an Early Thursday so class was just an hour long. We started with a group caption exercise in which Alyssa passed out seven photos one each groups of four and they worked together to write a caption together.

Next we brainstorme so of the things that happened by "chance" which was a good exercise to show everone all the unexpected things that happen.



Everyone is gone today. Not a bad thing.

At the beginning of the period we did a group captioning exercise with the entire staff with a picture from the first day of school. Then Maddie went through the beat list to see what people were interested in. Then we passed out the Secret Pal list

The big teaching of the the day was my "What Makes Copy Great" session which I only just started.

Today we got started with caption training. I taught my new and improved version of "Captivating Captions" which wound up taking about half the period. Then they passed out the "Celebrity Profile" sheets and the Secret pall interest forms.

After school I had my usual Tuesday meeting and returned as the editor team was leaving.

The first day of yearbook! Here we go again.
There are quite a few people in the class I do not believe I have ever seen before, but then probably 21 or so of them I do know. This is the result of our weak recruiting. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

After school the three editors stayed until nearly 4:30 getting stuff done. Good sign, the worked on the staff manual and the daily lesson plan.
